Team member Katy Beranger Laminator for Privilège catamarans

Katy Beranger

Katy is another long-term Privilège employee, who has been with the yard since it was known as Alliaura Marine. As a laminator she helps to build the fiber glass elements of the boat, from the hulls to locker lids. Her day-to-day involves building up layers of different glass matting according to the lamination plan, wetting it out with resin and ultimately painting components for different finishes. “It is a tiring day, but I enjoy it,” she says simply.

There is also a good atmosphere and an understanding between the members of my team.

The hulls of all Privilège catamarans are molded in three main parts, using vacuum infusion, but there are lots of smaller parts that are hand laid-up by Katy’s team. Precision is key to the consistent quality of composite parts, and she enjoys doing her work well.

Outside work, she is a keen walker and has not ventured yet onto the waves in a boat. Katy is also looking forward to spending more time with her grandson in the future. Where would she sail to if she had her very own Privilège catamaran? Easy: “Everywhere,” says Katy with a smile.
