From block to yacht - making a 41ft mould

The story of our first Moody DS41 begins with massive blocks of polystyrene. Overnight, a 5-axis milling machine cuts out the first contours of the new hull. This is the "hull plug", around which the mould will be built. The elaborate moulding process now continues by hand. Resin, glassfibre mats and reinforcing balsa wood are carefully laminated together. The tense moment of demoulding reveals a two-part negative mould. The hull is then created step by step. And stay excited, because soon the "wedding" will be celebrated, when the hull and the deck are joined for good!
