The Silverrudder Regatta is the world's largest single-handed regatta and is accruing more and more sailors since its first launch in 2012. Already three weeks after the registration start this year's maximum of 400 participants is reached, wherein a majority of the sailors come from Germany. The sailed distance is 134 nautical miles around Funen and has the current record of 19 hours and 2 minutes.

Amongst the competitors will be again 18 Dehler yachts stating their strength as excellent "performance cruisers" which can be sailed at its limits even single handed. A quick glance at the entry list reveals the variety of Dehler yachts that have been perfected over the years on. Ranging from a Dehler Sprinta Sport from the 70s to the new Dehler 38, the Dehler fleet is participating with almost 40 years of innovation history.

Alone yet together
Karl Dehler, product developer at HanseYachts, will compete with his Dehler 38 competition "Sport Hotel" for the second time and is already excited about this year's race.

"The initial challenge of the Silverrudders race is not to win against the competitors but to finish the long-distance race on your own," says Karl Dehler. "That's why everyone who successfully completed the regatta gets a T-shirt with the inscription 'finisher'".

Volker Wolenski from Hamburg, who is racing with his Dehler 38 "Paikea", summarizes this view in a striking sentence, "I sail alone with others against myself."

Especially the night journey is fascinating, "on the horizon, a sea of navigation lights and the stars in the sky," says Volker Wolenski.
